Friday 1.14 - Meeting up with Prodigy - Continued
Yohji steadily trailed Ken, trying to keep himself in mission mode and ignoring everything else. He only paused when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, and checked to find a text from Ran.
"Ok?"
He felt mildly warmed at the realization that Ran had noticed he called even though he hadn’t left a message. And more so that he was apparently worried. Although rationally, that could only be because he had called while on a mission. Ran was supposed to be worried.
He overcame the temptation to reply back with, “Situation normal, all fucked up.” Ran probably wouldn’t appreciate his sense of humor. No reason to needlessly panic his teammates.
Instead he responded with "Fine."
He left the message on the screen, hesitating over whether or not to add ‘We need to have another talk about Ken.’
In the end he aborted that idea. Again, it would just make Ran worry when nothing could be done yet. What’s more Ken seemed to be rather paranoid that they were talking about him behind his back. Which of course wasn’t unfounded, but no reason to fuel his teammate’s mistrust by leaving traceable evidence that they actually were.
He hated himself even more for thinking about his friend/teammate in such a tactical mindset. He was only fueling the problem…. But what else could he do?
He continued to pause, wanting to add some sort of more personal sign-off. He couldn’t think of anything that wasn’t gushy. Or didn’t use words that he hadn’t actually expressed to Ran verbally yet. At a loss for anything that felt appropriate, he reluctantly hit ‘send’ feeling slightly empty as he did so.
He was anxious for this mission to be over. He wanted to get back to the Koneko. He was even anxious just to meet Prodigy. Speaking to a member of Schwarz actually felt like it might be a relief in comparison to interacting with his own teammate.
How fucked up was that?
“Well….I guess we should start by going into the office and finding out if he’s actually enrolled here? Or do you think we should just hang around outside and hope to intercept him as he leaves?”
Prodigy was just one kid in a crowd of hundreds. There were so many ways this could turn into a dead end.

Which was what he was doing now. He had his powers wrapped tightly around himself, so that even the occasional student brushing by him never quite touched him. It was one of the first things he'd started doing once he got a more sophisticated control over his powers... Create a little barrier between himself and the rest of the world.
He watched as around him, students laughed, yelled and stressed out, girls hugged each other and a boy and a girl kissed where they thought no one would notice them. They all looked so... Normal yet absurd.
He wondered how Kudou and Hideka were going to find him here. It was like a maze. Maybe he should go back outside... They would probably stand a better chance of finding him there. On the other hand, if he wasn't outside, they'd probably look for him inside. But what were they going to do? Peer into every classroom?
The choice was made for him when a bell sounded and as one, all the doors around him burst open to admit waves and waves of students, all in a hurry to go into the same direction; Out.
Nagi let himself be dragged along by them, not really having a choice since he didn't want to stand out. Most students were taller than he was and he knew all too well that provoking the wrong person had the potential to get into a LOT of trouble, either with the other students or with the directors. These kids might not be talents, but if he let his own talent slip, he'd have a much bigger problem on his hands than he could manage right now.
Not much later, the stream rolled into the school garden and dispersed a little, although the man goal seemed to be the gate. Not wanting to end up outside the school lest he wouldn't be able to find the weiss, Nagi wrestled himself out of the crowd and went to lean against a wall somewhere a little out of the way, waiting.
no subject
“It does look like he’s waiting for us,” Yohji agreed. He wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
If he had been tipped off by a teammate that they were coming, then the prediction had probably come with some sort of instructions as well…. So much for talking to Prodigy without Oracle or Mastermind’s influence.
He did his best to shake off all the tension adhered to him. It was key that he made himself as friendly and approachable as possible when speaking with Prodigy. He shot Ken a wary glance. It was not the amicable soccer playing version of his teammate next to him.
“Well, come on then, I guess,” He started walking over to the dark haired teenager, silently praying that Ken wasn’t about to do something unexpected.
no subject
Nagi was the strongest telekinetic in existence, he had shields that were near impossible to penetrate, courtesy of lessons by both Schuldig and Crawford and he was extremely intelligent. No, talents couldn't do much to hurt him. One Yohji Kudou could do the trick though.
He took a deep breath and collected himself. He knew the blond might bring up Tot. He had spend a good part of the morning mentally preparing for this and he was as ready as he was going to be. He was a professional and he would prove that.
Silently, he waited for the two men to approach him.
no subject
He really hadn’t thought they’d find him.
He hadn’t thought Prodigy would cooperate if they did. Not after the way he’d run from their last encounter…
But he seemed to be placidly waiting for them….
If he turned them back now though he severely doubted that this opportunity would present itself again. And even so, they simply could not afford the time to go searching for the youngest Schwarz member a second time. The disk could be utilized on a public level with the next 24 hours. They had to make contact with Schwarz as soon as possible, regardless of the personal consequences….
He did his best to shove down his doubts and trust that Ken’s professional experience would take over in spite of whatever was going on inside his friend’s head.
….He wished he hadn’t left behind his watch.
“Hello Nagi,” he said pleasantly, affording the teenager a warm smile. He didn’t have a clue how to explain their appearance or where to even start in pitching their request to the telekinetic.
“Lively school you’ve got here,” he lamely attempted to ease in with some small talk. “Seems nice.”
He felt like an idiot, but the fact that he still had both feet on the ground was encouraging, at least.
no subject
He had a mission though, and that mission did not involve him killing either of the Weiss members.
“Lively school you’ve got here, seems nice,".
Really, Kudou? Really?
"Good afternoon," he said, levelly. "What are you doing here?"
no subject
Oh, I was just thinking about having kids and wanted to scope out the local school systems.
Yeah, right.
Cruising to pick up a teacher or two would have been a more believable excuse, but he wasn’t about to say that either.
As if the kid wouldn’t be able to tell he was lying, regardless of what he came up with.
“Looking for you,” he said straightforwardly. “Lucky us, there you are.” He smiled, hoping that Nagi was actually going to hear them out before he found himself smashed into a wall. He looked towards Ken, briefly, wondering if he was going to step in and say anything. Yohji rather hoped he wouldn’t.
“We need to circumvent a problem,” he continued cautiously. “If we don’t, things are going to get really nasty, really fast. Not just for us, but for you too. If you help us it will be in everyone’s best interest. Mine. Yours. Your teammates’. Any….” He looked around skeptically, “…Friends you have here.” Nagi was not really projecting an aura of someone who socialized, but Yohji was grasping at straws to be compelling.
“If you don’t help us, a lot of people not related to missions will die. Indiscriminately. It could be anyone.” He gave the young boy a meaningful look as he emphasized that last word, simultaneously mentally bracing himself for an attack.

Nagi looked from one Weiss to another, honestly puzzled. How'd they survive this long if they were this unorganized, unplanned and just plain foolish? He and his teammates had let them live, but he was sure others had not.
Oh well, he'd have to run with it. Orders were orders.
Kudou's implication that Tot might be hurt stabbed home, and he glared at the man, but was destracted by Hideka's words. He raised an eyebrow.
''I do not see why you think we couldn't handle ourselves. I would think it would be yourseelf you were worried about...''
(OOC: urgh, bad, baaad writing, but it 's the best you're going to get out of me at the moment...)
no subject
…Also, “A little birdie told us”?
Seriously?
Did Ken think they were in some gangster movie? Who the hell talked like that in the real world? This whole new badass act was so not working for the brunet.
It was all Yohji could do to not smack his forehead in frustration.
He leveled a serious gaze at Nagi. “I’m sure you can handle yourselves,” he replied without emotion. “But the business of this disk is a lot bigger than only affecting either of our teams. We’re concerned about innocent lives, and a lot are at stake right now. If the entire population of Tokyo were instantaneously decimated, I thought you might regret one or two of the casualties. I hope I’m not mistaken about that.”
He gulped, not having terribly high hopes for getting through to the teen. “The disk needs to be destroyed. We’re hoping you will help us, in a common interest.”
no subject
Getting smashed into a brick wall?
Right now, that seemed to be the only viable reason for their behaviour. It sure caught him off guard, but seeing as his usual reflex to 'caught of guard' was 'smash cause into nearest wall', that really wasn't such a good strategy. Kudou should know this. Even Hideka should know this.
Either that or they were simply suffering from accute retardation. It was a possibility...
He was so tempted to just give them the info and leave, but Crawford had instructed him not to make it easy. One more hint at Tot though, and Kudou was going to find himself smashed to little bits. Hideka too, just for good form.
Not having a clue what else to say, he went for the direct approach. It had aided him well enough in the past.
"What do you want?"
no subject
He was...impressed, honestly.
The cat was a far more neutral and benign agent to get close to Nagi than Tot. He could barely even remember telling Ken about it. He'd only even done so as he'd found it an oddity.... it had been an annoyance. An interesting story. And then discarded. He hadn't filed the detail away for usefulness. As Ken apparently had. Stupid.
If it were only a few days earlier he would have even bought the sincerity of Ken's words.
Ken seeing the good in others and genuinely wanting to help out would have been solidly believable. Expected.
Old Ken.
Yohji scrutinized Ken's face for some telling trace of the difference. Calculating Ken versus Sincere Ken.
There was nothing to go by but instinct.
Yohji felt mildly chilled.
Although for the moment at least he approved.
Unfortunate that Ken's manipulative prowess didn't seem to be having any impact whatsoever.
"We told you," he finally answered Prodigy's question. "That disk cannot be used. By anyone. We want it destroyed."
no subject
Nagi was busy formulating his reply, finally able to savely devulge some of the knowledge he had to give them, when the man made another unexpected move and turned to walk away.
He was walking away! The idiot had finally reached his goal - he didn't know that yet, granted - and than he walked away! Nonetheless, Nagi decided to reward him for making sense for a change.
Nagi decided to reply to Kudou first; keep the man occupied and Siberian might stay as well. crawford must've seen this mission work out to satisfaction - both his bodylanguage and the assignment itself reeked of it - so he could take a small risk. If they decided to run off, Nagi could always throw them some crumbs to keep them there,
''Where did you get the idea that I'd abandon my team-'' my family ''- to help you?'' He was curious. He'd always seen Weiss as a relatively close team, a lot like Schwarz in many ways. The idea that they could so easilly assume he would act out against his teammates in any way. Nonetheless, he needed to seem at least somewhat willing.
''Also, it might've escaped your attention, but Oracle is a pre-cognitian. There is no way I could destroy the disk for you if I wanted to. He would move, hide or protect it before I'd even come up with the plan.''
He made a display of thinking a bit, looking away and staying quiet for a moment. Finally, slowly he said; ''There is the one thing though...

His approval of Ken's handling though veered off track as his teammate unexpectedly turned and casually strolled away.
What the fuck was he doing?!
He glanced at Nagi to see if the kid would shed any light on whether or not Ken's strategy was having any affect whatsoever...
Nagi's question effectively distracted him.
"I had the idea that you might abandon your team to help yourself," he clarified.
He opened his mouth to say 'because that's what I would do,' but hesitated, not sure if Ken was still in earshot or not. If he was, that admittance would be taken in the very worst way possible.
Not unjustifiably of course. But...
"I..." He glanced to where Ken had retreated and tried to judge the risk of finishing his explanation. "...Have a priority that is everything to me. It is my first alliance before anything else."
He looked at Nagi cautiously, wondering if he'd just handed the teen permission to pummel him.
"I was hoping we held similar values."
He didn't respond to the boy's logical assessment to Oracle's all-knowingness. He'd known that the pre-cog could see the future, but from what he'd briefly witnessed, it seemed as though the man's visions came without prompting. Which Yohji had hoped meant that he did not necessarily have visions of everything, thus leaving the possibility of some things perhaps slipping beneath the radar so to speak.
"What?" Yohji couldn't stop himself from predictably asking. Had his assessment been right?
no subject
"What?" Yohji asked, and had Nagi been anyone else, he would have smiled at how predictable Kudou was.
He made a big show of looking slightly insecure. Wouldn't do to seem to eager. "Oracle... He had a vision ealier today," well that was truth, at least, "He mumbled something about the disc..."
He might nog have been the best actor in the world, but with Weiss in the state it was, desperate for a lead and not in sinque with each other, it was most probably enough. Now it was up to them to ask him for the rest. He didn't doubt that they would. Or Kudou would. at least.
no subject
He glanced at Ken to read his reaction and promptly regretted doing so. The look the burnet was shooting him could have frozen lava. Shit.
He was starting to feel like he’d been cornered in a cage with two distempered lions.
And it seriously did not bode well that it was his own teammate currently setting off the most alarm.
Especially considering how clearly Nagi was playing him right now.
“Yeah?” He prompted, hoping that Nagi would continue without forcing him to more blatantly ask for it. He didn’t see any option but to plow on ahead regardless of the warning signals.
no subject
"Yeah?"
Why wasn't the stupid man asking questions? He wanted the info right? On the other hand, Nagi wanted to get away as soon as possible, back home and to his computers. Why was he stuck doing this anyway? Both Crawford and Schuldig had had the appropriate training for this kind of thing while in Rosenkreuz, but not him. Noone had deemed him even remotely social enough to do qualify for this field. And they were right. He gave an internal sigh before focusing back on the men in front of him.
Did they realize that anyone else, in any other situation, would have been dead by now. Probably not. Idiots.
What information to give... Hmmm...
"I'm pretty sure it was about a disk being used, but I don't understand... The disk is in our possession. It's all very odd." He frowned, more at the nonsense he was spawning than the real thing, but a real frown nonetheless.
no subject
He’d been waiting for them, so clearly he’d known they’d come for the disk. Surely his teammates would not send him to deal with their enemies completely uninformed. What’s more, he’d had the impression that Prodigy was the more tech-savvy member of their team. He suspected that if any of them knew much about the disk in their possession it would be Nagi first and foremost.
On the other hand, Yohji had witnessed the spectacle of Oracle experiencing an unexpected vision. It had been surprisingly brutal. That a vision would cause as much confusion as enlightenment wasn’t beyond Yohji’s realm of belief. He couldn’t entirely discount Nagi’s projected confusion.
“Were Schwarz the ones using the disk?” He did his best to keep his voice neutral as he asked.
no subject
He gave the man a very, very cold look before turning back to Kudou. Behind the man he could see the empty school grounds, which was lucky, but Nagi really didn't care who saw right now. Siberians words echoed in his mind. Mocking and condescending and arrogant.
"Aren’t you all about destruction, chaos and anarchy?" "Or are you back to your status as lapdogs?" "Lapdogs" "Lapdogs..."
He fixed Kudou with a glare as well before turning and walking away, stance and body seeming as cold as ever. Siberian would fall down soon enough... As soon as Nagi was out of range anyway. Which would probably be a couple of subway stops. If Siberian broke a few bones falling from that height, that wasn't Nagi's problem.
Nagi was done with it. Done with the constant one-eighties in attitude, with the constant implying and pushing at issues he did not want to talk about, with their implications of his disloyalty to his team and with the insults. He was done with acting defenseless and keeping himself from killing the two morons because Crawford said they had to live. If Crawford wanted them to know about the theater, he could come down here and tell them himself. He had the eduction for it, not Nagi. Kudou, he could deal with. Bombay too. They were predictable and had brains. Siberian seemed to be more of a nut-job than everyone claimed Farf to be.
no subject
He’d known that involving Ken in this mission was just asking for a confrontation. And for a little while there the burnet had actually been impressing him with some masterful tact. Why the fuck had he had to go and do that?!
He shot Ken a look devoid of sympathy.
“NAGI.” Yohji called out, hesitant to chase after the kid. Leaving Ken immobilized like this was only going to dig him into a deeper hole as far as the fucked-up-ness of their team dynamics were concerned. Although he figured he was probably already hopelessly on Ken’s ‘people to never forgive ever’ list. Fucking hell.
“We’re not trying to be your enemy right now! Crawford told you to talk to us, didn’t he? It’s why you were waiting. What do we need to know about the disk? It’s fucking important!!” He took a few steps, but only to make sure he could still be heard. Trying to physically halt Nagi’s progress would obviously be futile. “A LOT of lives are on the line. I KNOW you’re not fucking heartless!”
He stared hard at the teen’s retreating back, willing him to stop.
no subject
When Siberian started screaming at him, Nagi bounced him off the wall and smashed him back at it a couple of times to shut him up.
He chose his words with utter care, his stare at Kudou still not relenting.
"According to Oracle's vision, the disk will be used tonight in a movie theater by the name of Tokyu. Shibuya Station - the movie starts at 8:30pm the attack will be at 8:47pm. Be there, deal with it is. It is your mess, you will clean it up."
With that, he turned around and walked away once more.
no subject
He only held the gaze for a moment though, his head whipping back to watch in horror as Ken was slammed into the wall again.
"STOP IT!" His scream was now directed at both of them.
Fuck! He tried frantically to tell if Ken was alright. He couldn't know without looking at his head, and Ken was still suspended far out of his reach. He was completely helpless to interfere.
Was Ken trying to kill himself??
He was so disturbed by the assault on his teammate that Yohji very nearly missed the vital information that had drawn them out on this suicide run in the first place. He filed the name and time away carefully in his memory.
"What do you mean our mess!" He sputtered. "YOU have the disk! You can stop it from being used! There doesn't have to be a mess at all!"
He knew his words were hitting a brick wall. He gave up on swaying Nagi and watched Ken carefully, hoping to be able to do something to prevent Ken getting too badly injured when Nagi finally let him fall.
no subject
For a moment, the temptation was very real not to give them to the idiots at all, but Crawford had said to give them to Weiss, and Crawford was always right. If only Siberian would shut up already...
Suddenly, the earplugs in their plastic bags shot out of his pocket and right at Siberian. The man had just finished telling him to let him down - as if - when the four bags stuffed themselves right into his open mouth.
Nagi hadn't stopped walking away, let be looked back. It was only a moment longer until he rounded a corner and was gone, leaving Siberian high up the wall for another 10 minutes.
no subject
"Ken!" Yohji bounced in place anxiously, wanting to do something to reach his teammate but completely devoid of ideas for anything helpful he could actually do.
"Are you okay? Can you breathe?" He realized that it was pretty pointless to expect an answer.
no subject
Then Yohji thought about that a little harder, realizing that keeping all of his attention focused on Ken wasn’t going to help much. His instinct would be to try and catch him, or if nothing else help break his fall.
…In his current physical condition, breaking Ken’s fall would probably be the death of him. At the very least it would spell ripped stitches and profuse blood loss.
Making sure Nagi’s mysterious objects didn’t get lost was probably the most useful thing Yohji could actually be doing at the moment. He gingerly retrieved the small objects, grimacing slightly as the slimy plastic made contact with his skin. It was too bad he wasn’t in mission gear for this; his gloves would have been appreciated.
A closer look rather easily revealed what was in the bags. Earplugs?
Was Nagi fucking kidding him?
Yohji had been to enough concerts to know that earplugs at the most only muffled sound. At the end of the day, they didn’t really do jack shit.
Schwarz was trying to nudge them into a suicide mission.
And they were low enough on options that they’d probably go along with it anyway….
Speaking of suicide, Yohji returned his attention to Ken. “Don’t aggravate him!” He hissed up in exasperation. “It’s going to be bad enough getting you down as it is! We don’t want him to throw you!” His eyes shifted to the ground and then back up to Ken, slightly guiltily. “I’m not physically strong enough right now to catch you,” he added.
no subject
"Just because they're not trying to kill us, doesn't mean they care if we die or not. And there's an awful lot that can be done to you before it kills you. You don't want to tempt them to walk that line."
Yohji highly doubted he was going to manage to locate wherever the gym was before Ken came crashing down. Not to mention mats were extremely large and heavy. It hurt his ego to admit it to even himself, but even just dragging a mat was probably out of his capacities right now. Sheesh. He glanced around for some other option but all he saw was grass and pavement.
"Can you see where the gym is from up there?" He asked without humor.
no subject
“You’re a funny guy, Kenken,” he said with a skeptical look at the distant building complex. There was simply no way in Hell he was going to manage to so much as walk that far before Ken crashed to the ground. And drag a mat back with him? yeah right. Not to mention, way to kill their attempt at staying low profile.
Oh well, it’s not like he had anything else to do while he waited for Ken to fall. Might as well keep up the front of actually trying. Yohji shrugged and took off towards the gym at a perfectly leisurely pace. If Ken really did remain stuck for that long, perhaps he could sweet talk someone into carrying a mat for him.
Or maybe he wouldn’t bother. He’d see how he felt when he got there.
no subject
Nagi stepped into the subway made himself comfortable in his seat. For a moment he debated keeping Siberian up there all the way home and after that, but finally he shrugged and let the man drop. It was a wasteful use of his powers and energy and he really wasn't worth it.
He smirked for a second before taking out his phone to check on his email.
[Nagi off to Friday 1.16]

Ken, apparently, wasn’t going to be needing his services after all.
He reversed his direction, and found that even making the effort his speed didn’t improve a whole lot. All he seemed to be achieving was losing his ability to catch his breath.
When he finally made it back to Ken he gave his teammate a hard scrutinizing look-over. Nagi had definitely not handled Ken with the same consideration of Yohji’s own experience of being tossed in the air.
“Maybe we should stop at the hospital on our way back,” he said, holding out a hand so Ken could get up. “You might have a concussion.”
no subject
“You’re not fine,” Yohji stated grimly.
He didn’t like the unsteady sway to Ken’s movements as he attempted to get up. He suspected that Ken was significantly worse off than ‘not fine.’
Ken had been worse than ‘not fine’ before they’d even confronted Prodigy.
He ignored the jab at Ran, although not without uncomfortably picking up on the fact that Ken had used his codename even though they were currently alone, and it had never been a proper ‘mission’ in the first place.
If Ken was going to be uncooperative though, he wasn’t going to fight him. Yohji had a paranoid distrust of regular hospitals anyway. He actually felt that Ken was probably in better hands back at the Koneko. He’d have Ran or Omi check him over, and if his injuries seemed severe a Kritiker doctor could be summoned.
Yeah right like Ken will agree to see some Kritiker doctor. Wishful thinking, Kudoh.
It wasn’t without a little selfishness that Yohji so easily agreed to head back. He was anxious to see Ran.
He gave Ken a scrupulous look, but shrugged. “Let’s get back then.”
He waited for Ken to go first though, so he could judge if the burnet was actually capable of walking home.
